It is hard to improve upon this classic, but somehow we did. Three Twins Ice Cream's Vanilla Chocolate Chip begins its life as our delicious Madagascar Vanilla ice cream.
We then add organic dark chocolate chips from some fancy-schmancy European country. We at Three Twins clearly love milk, but we also think that the contrast of flavor and slight bitterness that dark chocolate ponies up in this ice cream trumps anything milk chocolate chips could possibly offer.
Mind you, these are not the gargantuan, pebble-like chips that one typically finds in ice cream. Size does matter in this case, and bigger is not always better. The chips that we use are actually quite small. Besides being really cute, they can be more evenly dispersed in our ice cream than regular-sized chips and they have a pleasant lil' crunch to 'em.
That's it. Think of it as vanilla ice cream with chocolate freckles. And really delicious ones, at that.
Fun fact: The chocolate chips that we use are a 4,000 count, meaning that approximately 4,000 of them make up one pound. We use close to 1,000,000 chips in one full day’s production run at our Petaluma ice cream factory.
